Field Trip Update for 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade Families! 🎬🍕🚌 Due to rainy weather in the forecast, the PTO field trip to Lewis County Park has been changed! Students will now be heading to the Meadowbrook Mall Movie Theater to watch the new Stitch movie! Here’s what you need to know: 🕗 Departure from school: 8:15–8:30 AM 🍴 Lunch: Bagged lunch (pepperoni rolls + snacks) provided by our amazing cooks 🍿 Concessions will be available, but PTO will NOT provide spending money. If your child wants snacks, please send cash. 🕓 Return: Students will be back in time for normal dismissal. ✅ Already signed the permission slip? You’re all set! 🌎🦋🎓 A busy and exciting spring in Kindergarten! 🎓🦋🌎 Mrs. Coombs’ and Mrs. Skinner’s kindergarten class has been learning, exploring, and celebrating in big ways! 🌿 For Earth Day, our kindergartners rolled up their sleeves to help keep Mother Earth clean—doing their part to make a difference! 🦋 We also studied the life cycle of the Painted Lady butterfly, watching in wonder as they transformed from caterpillars to butterflies before our eyes. What a beautiful send-off when we released them! 🔬 Thank you to our amazing PTO for sponsoring a fun-filled, hands-on trip to the Clay Center—our students had a blast exploring and learning! 🎓 During the Gilmer County High School Senior Walkthrough, a few of our little Wildcats had the joy of cheering on their siblings as they celebrated this major milestone! Kindergarten is full of meaningful moments—and we’re so proud of all the learning and love happening every day! #GoGilmer

Clay2Go brought science to life at GCES! Students had an absolute blast exploring hands-on exhibits thanks to the Clay Center’s mobile science lab from Charleston, WV. From circuits to road trip math to building suspension bridges, our Wildcats were fully engaged and learning through play and exploration. Thank you, Clay2Go, for sparking curiosity and making science so much fun! #GoGilmer

📢LEMONADE WARS RESCHEDULED!!📢 🍋☀️Due to the forecasted thunderstorms, we are rescheduling our Lemonade Wars event for next Tuesday, May 27th (rain or shine)!! 3rd Grade parents: All items for your child’s stand can be sent in any day this week. We hope to see you on Tuesday, May 28, between 1:00 and 2:30 PM to cheer on our young entrepreneurs!

🐾GCES WILDCATS: Week At-A-Glance🐾

Today, our 5th graders had a special treat! Community members from a variety of professions within our community visited our math classroom to share how they use yhe Mathematical Habits of Mind in their everyday work. From problem solving and reasoning to looking for patterns and making sense of numbers, students saw firsthand how math thinking goes far beyond the classroom. A HUGE thank you to our guests, Pharmacist and business owner Doug Moss, FCI Gilmer David Russell and Scott Heath, Foodland Manager Latasha White, County Commissioner and General Manager of the Sue Morris Sports Complex Lance Woodford, and County Assessor Melissa Jedamski for inspiring our young mathematicians and showing them how math matters in the real world! #GoGilmer

🎉Underground Spirit Week: Days 4 & 5! Our 5th graders wrapped up their Underground Spirit Week in style! Day 4 was all about showing off their school spirit and Wildcat pride, and Day 5 brought the comfort with pajama day! What a fun week it’s been celebrating these awesome students. They’ve brought energy, excitement, and a whole lot of heart to GCES—and they sure will be missed! #GoGilmer

☀️⛱️Day 3 of 5th Grade’s Underground Spirit Week: Beach Day! These Wildcats brought the sunshine indoors and showed up in full beach mode—complete with floaties, shades, beach balls, and tropical vibes! No sand? No problem! Our halls are full of summer spirit and sunny smiles today. #GoGilmer

🐒🐾Rain or shine, these Wildcats had a wild time! Mrs. Campbell’s and Miss Friend’s classes took a fun-filled trip to Hovatter’s Zoo! The weather didn’t cooperate, but that didn’t stop this crew from laughing, learning, and making unforgettable memories. From feeding giraffes to posing as ostriches, it was a day full of adventure! #GoGilmer

Day 2 of 5th Grade’s Underground Spirit Week: Little White Lies Today was all about the fibs… the funny ones, that is! Our Wildcats showed off their sense of humor with shirts that told the tiniest little white lies—like “I love homework,” “I don’t talk a lot,” and “Ariel is not my sister.” We loved seeing the creativity and laughs this theme brought to life.
