What a sweet celebration!! On February 15th, GCES rewarded students in attendance with a cotton candy party. Such a fun and tasty way to acknowledge their commitment to coming to school! #GoGilmer

Dr. Ashley Kooken and the GSU Earth and Space pre-service educators joined GCES on February 7th to enrich students with a STARLAB experience. Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st grade learned about "Day & Night" while in the STARLAB and created a future astronaut hat during their time outside the dome. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade used the STARLAB to learn about the Phases of the Moon. Then they made a Moon Phase flip book. 4th and 5th grade students learned about a range of Constellations and Star lore inside the STARLAB. When not inside the dome, they created their own constellation and story to go with it. The staff and students of GCES would like to give a SHOUTOUT to GSU and Dr. Kooken for a very special learning opportunity. We appreciate the continued partnership with Glenville State University.

Preschool staff hosted their annual Snuggle and Read on Tuesday, February 13th. One adult guest joined their preschooler to tie knots along the fringe-edging of material to make a blanket in the school cafeteria. Guests and preschoolers then moved to their respective classroom to "snuggle" in their blanket and enjoy a story with their guest. A cookies and milk were served for snack thanks to our GCES Cooks. The Preschool staff would like to thank: Gilmer County CEOS for the donated material, Save the Children Early Steps for the book donations, Gilmer County Family Support Center and Minnie Hamilton Health Systems for volunteering to help at this event. Kindergarten took their groundhogs, Wildcat Willie and Wildcat Wilma out to the playground to see if they could see their shadow. We are happy to report that there should be an early spring. 😊

Mrs. Moyers' kindergarten class read, "The Greatest Snowman in the World!" by Peter Hannan. Students then created their own snowman out of ice cream using three different size scoops and toppings. #GoGilmer
