🐾GCES Wildcats: Week At-A-Glance🐾

On September 18, 2024, Mrs. Shiflet's third-grade writing classes had a special virtual visit from some amazing guests! 🎉 Lisa Collum, CEO and Author of Top Score Writing, and Katie Jackson-Szabo, Curriculum Director of Top Score Writing, joined each class via Zoom. These two inspiring educators are featured in the instructional videos our students watch daily as part of their Top Score lessons. ✏️
This incredible opportunity came about because Mrs. Shiflet reached out to Mrs. Collum to share how much she loves the Top Score program and how engaged the students are with the videos. Mrs. Collum didn’t just reply—she suggested a Zoom call to chat with the students! They discussed the curriculum and even took time to answer questions.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Shiflet for making this unforgettable learning experience possible for her third graders! 🌟👏 #GoGilmer

📘 Attention GCES Families! Please remember to check your child's blue data folder that was sent home last Thursday. Take a moment to review and discuss the important information inside with your student, then sign the folder and return it to school. Your involvement is key to their success! Thank you for your support #GoGilmer

🌟 September is Attendance Awareness Month! 🌟
At GCES, we know how important it is for students to be present in school every day. Attendance has a direct impact on learning, academic success, and building strong habits for the future. Let’s work together to ensure every student is ready to learn, grow, and succeed by encouraging regular attendance! 🏫✏️
✅ Attend for the Win! Miss Less than 10!
We’re encouraging all students to do their best to miss fewer than 10 days this school year! Remember, every day counts! #GoGilmer

📚 Academic Planners Are Here! 📚
Great news, GCES families! Our Academic Planners have arrived, and they’re ready to help keep the connection strong between home and school. These planners are an excellent tool for staying informed about your child’s schoolwork and any messages from their teacher.
Plus, don’t forget to check your child's backpack for their grey and black folders. These folders are where you'll find all the important papers—whether they need to be returned or kept at home.
Let’s work together to keep our Wildcats on track! 🐾 #GoGilmer

🚌 Bus Safety with Our Preschoolers! 🚌
On Tuesday, our youngest Wildcats at GCES learned all about bus safety! A big thank you to our wonderful bus drivers, Jean McCune and Steven Louk, for teaching our preschool students the importance of staying safe on the bus. From how to properly get on and off the bus to the importance of staying seated during the ride, our little ones are now bus safety pros! 🐾 #GoGilmer

🎶 Exciting news from our GCES Wildcat Elementary Band Program! We had a great turnout at our Bandland instrument tryouts, where many students had the opportunity to explore and find the instruments that suit them best. There's still plenty of time to join the GCES Wildcat Band! If your child is interested, please reach out to Judy Leggett by calling the school or emailing her at jleggett@k12.wv.us. #GoGilmer
