Mrs. Thorne and Mrs. Smith’s first grade class has been busy learning in Social Studies! 🇺🇸✨ Students researched important American symbols and landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Flag, and even the Bald Eagle. They worked hard creating posters filled with facts, drawings, and pictures, then proudly presented their projects to their classmates. We love seeing our Wildcats building confidence, practicing speaking skills, and learning about our country all at the same time. #GoGilmer #LoveMyWVSchool

🪥🦷Mrs. Donna Fox visited our preschoolers to talk about dental health and the importance of taking care of our teeth! She read a story, demonstrated proper brushing techniques, and helped students learn how to keep their smiles bright and healthy. Mrs. Sprouse’s 2nd Grade Scientists 🌎🧪 Students have been learning about weathering and erosion! They used droppers to slowly add water to sugar cubes, modeling how rain causes slow changes to Earth’s surface over time. #GoGilmer #LoveMyWVSchool

🐄🌾 Hands-On Learning with Farm Animals & STEM! 🌾🐖 Mrs. Minigh and Ms. Stalnaker’s class (Mrs. Beall’s 1st grade) had a special visitor, Jack Norman, who taught students all about different kinds of farm animals. Jack shared information about the parts of each animal, what they eat, and where they live. After learning, students were given a STEM challenge! Using a variety of building materials, each group worked together to design and build an agricultural habitat for their assigned animal (pig, cow, chicken, or sheep). Each habitat had to include: • 🏠 Shelter • 🚧 A fence • 🌾 The correct food • 💧 Water Students had a great time learning about farm animals while using their STEM skills, creativity, and teamwork to solve a real-world problem! Jack is a GCHS graduate and is currently a junior at WVU, majoring in Agriculture Technology and Agriculture Education. We loved having him share his knowledge and inspire our students! #GoGilmer #LoveMyWVSchool

🏀 Way to go, Wildcats! 🏀 Our 2nd and 3rd grade basketball players played their hearts out at tonight’s exhibition game! We are so proud of our athletes for their effort, teamwork, and great sportsmanship on the court. Due to inclement weather, the Gilmer County Elementary School 2nd and 3rd grade exhibition basketball game will now be held on Tuesday, 2/10/2026, starting at 5:30PM. Players are encouraged to arrive at 5:00PM.

All Gilmer County Schools will be dismissing 3-Hours early on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 due to expected inclement weather.

GC Math Field Day Winners for Gilmer County Schools will be recognized at the February 23rd BOE Meeting. They were to be recognized at the January 26th meeting; we will delay this recognition until Feb. 23rd. Thank you.
