📚 Attendance Matters! 🏫

Did you know there's a difference between Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy?

Both impact student success—but in different ways.
✅ Show up. Stay engaged.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Families, your support makes a difference!

An infographic comparing Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy. At the top, two people sit at desks, with one desk crossed out. The left side, labeled 'Chronic Absenteeism,' notes it counts all absences (excused and unexcused), focuses on academic impact, and uses community-based strategies. The right side, labeled 'Truancy,' states it counts only unexcused absences, emphasizes rule compliance, and relies on legal solutions. A bottom section titled 'How Can Parents/Guardians Help?' suggests monitoring attendance, communicating with school staff, and following the attendance policy at https://code.wvlegislature.gov/18-8-4/."
📋 Family Engagement Survey 🐾 Save the Children has partnered with Gilmer County Schools and GCES to provide several important programs. For example, Early Steps is for our children under the age of three years old. Wildcat University Afterschool and SummerBoost are programs offered to our Kindergarten through Fifth Graders at GCES. There is also a Book Vending Machine in the GCES Cafeteria, due to this continued partnership. Save the Children is asking for families to complete one of the surveys linked below to share about "family engagement" with your child's education. Please join us in this partnership by completing one survey per family. Thank you! English: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KVBJBCF Spanish: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LV7TB6P

🚍 Preschool Bus Safety Training 🚍 This week, our preschool students participated in a bus safety training led by our dedicated drivers, Jean McCune and Rebecca Wright. Students learned the importance of safe riding practices, including how to sit properly on the bus, enter and exit safely, and follow important safety procedures. We are grateful to our transportation staff for taking the time to ensure our youngest learners begin their school experience with a strong foundation in safety. Their commitment to student well-being is deeply appreciated. #GoGilmer #LoveMyWVSchool

⏰ Every minute matters in the classroom! Help us maximize learning by making sure students arrive on time and stay through the day. Small changes = big impact! 💡 #AttendanceMatters #EveryMinuteCounts #GoGilmer

A school attendance poster with a cheerful alarm clock character and bold red title "Every Minute Counts." It highlights how missing 15 minutes daily adds up to 1.25 hours per week, one day per month, and eight days per year. The message encourages timely arrivals and fewer early sign outs to support student learning.
